Called To Serve
By
Pastor John Hayhurst
Eph 2:5 Even when we were
dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are
saved;)
Eph 2:6 And hath raised us
up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ
Jesus:
Eph 2:7 That in the ages to
come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness
toward us through Christ Jesus.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye
saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest
any man should boast.
(Eph 2:10) For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, (a New Creation),
unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should
walk in them.
God has a plan and a program for every believer! He is our provider, our healer, our peace. Everything we could ever ask or think and even more is in Him. His desire is for us to live an abundant, (fulfilling, prosperous life), and while we're doing it, He has ordained that we should walk in the good works He has called us to!
Now what do you suppose these "good works" might be? Singing, preaching,
dancing, flagging, visiting the sick or the shut-ins.
Maybe you’ve been called to feed and clothe the homeless or to work with
children. Or it could be that you've been called to drive the bus, clean
the church or cut the grass!
You might be convinced the "good works" you were created for and called
into is Pastoring, or Teaching, or perhaps serving in the office of a
Prophet or an Apostle.
Every one of these things mentioned is good and God can use each of them
to reach His goal for your life.
Each of these "good works" may be used as a means to the end, to get you
to do what he really wants for you to do!
Why does Jesus call disciples?
Mat 4:18 And Jesus, walking
by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew
his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Mat 4:19 And he saith unto
them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
What did he call them for?
To be made 'fishers of men'.
Gods intent is for every believer to become a “Fisher of Men”!
Not only does He call us for this task, He actually provides us
with the ability and the authority to be “fishers”.
Jesus instructed His followers to wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit.
It was this “Gift” that would enable them to do what they were called to
do.
He is quoted in Acts 1:8
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:
and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea,
and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
It is of ultimate importance that believers witness for Christ. He has
equipped every believer to be a witness!
Now it’s time for each of us to step out in faith, believe what Jesus
said, and take the initiative to do what He’s called us to do!
After all, He’s the one that said you could! There is not one place in
scripture where God told someone to do something that they weren’t
successful when they tried.
You can rest assured: God will bless your efforts to do what He’s called
you to do and to be what He’s called you to be.
