For example, in mid-2006 archaeologists unearthed a 70,000 year old carved statue of a snake in Botswana. Snakes as religious symbols have been discovered all over southern Africa and may represent a single unifying concept of the earliest form of organized religious practices.

These religions supposedly predate Christianity by thousands of years. Some think that this makes these older religions more reliable or trustworthy.

There is a couple of things wrong with this assumption, first just because they are older does not mean that they are closer to the truth or more reliable than any other religion or that they are acceptable to God.

Secondly the scriptures clearly state that Jesus Christ existed before the foundation of the world that He is God and that He created everything and that He planned our salvation even before He laid the foundations of the world;

knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers; (1Pe 1:18 ASV)

but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, even the blood of Christ: (1Pe 1:19 ASV)

who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of times for your sake, (1Pe 1:20 ASV)

who through him are believers in God that raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God. (1Pe 1:21 ASV)

 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love: (Eph 1:4 ASV)

God had already chosen us before the foundation of the world, even before there were any other religions. Even though the term Christian was not used until sometime after Jesus Christ was crucified. As the scripture say’s; the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch around A.D. 62;

and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the church, and taught much people, and that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

(Act 11:26 ASV)

So we see that Christianity is actually much older than any of these other religions, since it is what God had planned from before He created or laid the foundation of the world.
